Liz Munns is a licensed professional counselor serving Topeka and the surrounding area. She utilizes mind-body modalities to treat issues such as chronic pain, anxiety, grief and trauma.

Liz has been practicing meditation for over 25 years. She received training in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction from the University of Massachusetts

Medical School Center for Mindfulness. In addition to her interest in the benefits of mindfulness, Liz is also interested the cautions and potential pitfalls of meditation practice.

Mindfulness is all over the news today. It’s popularity is growing exponentially with plenty of videos, apps and in-person groups available to teach people this ancient practice. The presentation will focus on defining mindfulness along with the benefits and cautions associated with the practice. During the presentation, we will take an experiential peek into different mindfulness practices, include a self-compassion practice, and one exercise that might even involve something sweet to eat!

FYI. It is our understanding that new bills for licensing Massage Therapists will be introduced during the 2019 legislative session.

The Board of Cosmetology wants to license both therapists and premises.

AMTA will present a bill that would place massage therapy under the Board of Healing Arts.

At this time there is no published information on either bill, they may not yet have even been written, and they have not been introduced. Bills are introduced after the legislature convenes in January.

We will update our website with information as it becomes  available. Watch this space.
